The Stegosaurus is a well-known dinosaur that is considered one of the dumbest animals on Earth. However, this “number one fool” survived on Earth for over 100 million years until early Cretaceous period when it became extinct. The Stegosaurus was a huge herbivorous dinosaur that lived in the Late Jurassic period. They mainly inhabited the plains and typically lived with other herbivorous dinosaurs in large herds.
The Stegosaurus was a massive dinosaur, about 7 meters long, 3.5 meters tall, and weighing around 7 tons. Despite its entire body being the size of a modern elephant, it had only a tiny brain. The Stegosaurus’ brain was extremely disproportionate to its massive body, only the size of a walnut. Testing showed that the Stegosaurus’ brain was slightly larger than that of a cat, about twice the size of a cat’s brain, and even smaller than a golf ball, weighing just over an ounce, less than two ounces in weight. Therefore, the reason why the Stegosaurus is considered the “number one fool” among dinosaurs is because of its particularly small brain.
The Stegosaurus was not the only dinosaur with low intelligence, but it is the most famous among all dinosaurs. However, we know that intelligence in the biological world is not proportional to body size. Especially during the long history of dinosaurs, most species had surprisingly small brains. Therefore, we cannot judge an animal’s intelligence based solely on its body size.
Although these giant animals have been extinct for a long time, the Stegosaurus is still considered a highly valuable dinosaur for research. Through the study of Stegosaurus and other dinosaur fossils, scientists can better understand the natural environment of the dinosaur era and infer information about the climate and ecosystems at that time. At the same time, these studies also help us better understand the origin and evolution of life and the mysteries of biodiversity on Earth.
